Reasonable Pregnancy-Related and Parenting Modifications
UCLA will provide reasonable pregnancy-related modifications to ensure equal access to the University and its programs and services.
Individuals may request reasonable pregnancy-related modifications from CRO. CRO, in consultation with relevant University stakeholders, will assess the availability of such modifications on a case-by-case basis. Modifications that would fundamentally alter the essential academic requirements of a course or program or lower academic standards, as well as those that constitute an undue administrative burden, will not be deemed to be reasonable.
Examples of Common Reasonable Modifications for pregnant and parenting individuals include:
- Access to lactation spaces
- Excused absences (for parenting students) to take their children to doctor’s appointments, to take care of their sick children, or other similar activities.
Requests for pregnancy and parenting-related modifications should be submitted to civilrightsoffice@ucla.edu.
Disability Accommodations
The Civil Rights Office does not oversee accommodation requests for disabilities. Students seeking an academic accommodation decision should contact the Center for Accessible Education (CAE). Employees seeking an accommodation in the workplace should contact Campus Human Resources (CHR). Many individual departments also have their own human resources representatives who are available to assist with arranging accommodations.

Religious Accommodations
UCLA provides reasonable religious accommodations for students and employees. Students should request accommodations from their instructors, and employees from their supervisors.
